In The End, All The Math Tutoring I Got Still Did Not Help Me

Math has never been my favorite subject in the world.  I did get to take honors classes in math, but that doesn’t mean I was excellent at it.  My best friend tutored me through it.  In a minute, you’ll see why she had to.

We haven’t had to use our checking account lately.  Any outstanding checks or charges have had time to clear.  For several weeks the account kept showing that we had more money than what I was calculating.  This has been bugging me to no end because I check things off in the register as they clear and only two things totaling roughly $70 didn’t clear.  The online banking kept saying I had about $450 more than I should have.

Thankfully this is a newer account and I only had to go back to July.  We rarely used the account so there were only a few things to see in the first couple months.  After that though, I had to go through each and every statement and check off each and every item in my registry for a second time thinking I might have missed something.   It took me  two hours of my life to do that.  Nothing  was missing!!  The only thing it could have been was my math.  I have done it before where I have miscalculated so maybe this time it was in our favor.

It was.

I went through every single line of my check registry and did the math all over.  When I went to subtract a charge I must have pushed the wrong button or something on the calculator because we have $470 extra.  This is just another classic example of my air-headed-ness at times.  One has to ask, when I was doing the math and only had to subtract about $180, did I not notice the sum I got was about $600 off?    I do confess, I do stupid stuff like that all the time.

Do you know what I could buy or what bill I could pay with $470?
