Happy Birthday To Me!

Tagged Under : ,

This weekend I celebrated my 32nd birthday.  I had a great day with my family.  I woke up to the kids yelling, “Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaapppy Biiiiiiiiiiiiiiiirthday Mom!!!”  They gave me some cards they made.  After we got dressed my husband and the kids took me to Dunkin Donuts for breakfast.  After that we had to go to the store from some medicine because I was sick.  You would think it would suck to be sick on your birthday but the combination of my good mood and good meds the hubby pumped me up with kept me going all day.  I had some sort of either upper respiratory infection or sinus infection.  At any rate despite the illness it was good.

Shortly after we got home my Mom surprised me by showing up at the house with my younger brother.  She was carrying a gift bag, two pizzas and a balloon.  She bought me some work out gear since I’ve been exercising, which has paid off because I started 2 weeks ago and have lost 3lbs so far.  Yay me!  She also made me a cooking apron to wear over my clothes because I constantly ruin shirts with all the cooking I do - must be all the grease from the fried foods I make.  I’m Puerto Rican, I can’t help the grease.

After the gift exchange we had to run to the store for some things.  When we got back my husband was making dinner.  He made chicken parm and pasta for all of us.  Then, they surprised me with a birthday cake.  It was a simple cake from our local grocery store.  Funny how I didn’t notice the fact that my name was spelled wrong until today when I went to upload the pictures onto my computer.  How did four adults miss that?  I have an excuse - I was highly medicated.  What’s everyone else’s? :)

Disney

I’m sooooooo tired from yesterday.  We had a great time.  We went to Epcot first and then to Disney World.  My husband put together a slide show so you guys can check out our day.  The trip was more for my husband than the kids.  He hasn’t been there in 15 years.  The kids and I tend to go to the attractions more than him because my mom lives about 15 minutes away from them all and my brother works for them.

All in all it was a great day.  My favorite part is when I got to see Goofy.  He is my favorite Disney character.   My least favorite part would have to be my husband trying to get the park people to let him take pictures with the characters while he holds up a sign promoting his blog.  They let him do it for Chip & Dale, but when it came to Mickey they said noooooo.  It was actually kind of funny.  So check out the slide show and enjoy the pics.  I need a nap!!

2009 Is Here!

Happy New Year everyone!!  2009 is here…hopefully it will be a more prospersous and healthy one for all.

We celebrated quietly at home last night.  The kids had fun staying up with us.  Aryanna almost didn’t make it, but once we changed the channel to show Time Square, she livened right up.  We counted down with everyone in the T.V.  Then we yelled Happy New Year!!!  The kids screamed.  Patrick and I yelled.  Everyone kissed and hugged.

What is it about that moment that makes you forget all the wrong in the world and all the wrong with each other?  It always seems like such an emotional and exciting moment.  Maybe because we have no clue what’s to come but we all want to see what is going to happen.  Maybe we all are just full of hopes for the future that we are ready to bring it on and conquer.

I personally love that moment and look foward to it every year because for a brief period in time nothing else matters in life but that moment of change.  Change of time.  Change of year.  Change of old ways to new and better ways.

I’m excited to see what 2009 brings.  Bad or good, I will learn a lesson either way.

Tranquility and Clarity

Today I had one of those moments of tranquility and clarity that are sometimes rare for a mom to have in the hustle and bustle of our everyday lives (and no my children were not asleep when it happened).  It was very much noisy and they were right next to me.

My husband and I took the kids out for a dinner favorite of theirs.  (teriyaki chicken and rice at the mall)  Don’t ask.   ANYway, while we were eating I couldn’t help but notice everyone with the shopping bags buzzing around, walking and talking with friends and family.  It felt like Christmas.  It’s sometimes hard to feel in the spirit of things when  you get no snow and the weather is in the 70’s and 80’s through  a lot of your winter.  We have a few cold days…which for us is in the 60’s.  Sad, I know.  Since I was feeling the spirit of Christmas I quietly said to Patrick, so the kids wouldn’t hear, “Hey, want to go see the light show at the new mall?  Maybe visit you know who?”  He nodded and said, “Sure.”

Off we went.  We got there right on time.  The show had started.  They had this huuuuuuuge tree all lit up and some smaller trees around it.  The music is playing and there are light’s shining on the buildings all around us.  All the lights are flashing in beat with the music.  Aryanna and I were bouncing around to the beat.  I had her on my shoulders  and Patrick was holding Jordyn.  We moved closer and just stood there.  It was really beautiful.

There was something about being there in that moment with them that made me feel like there is no place I’d rather be right then.  For about 10 minutes I had no troubles in life, only peace and happiness.  I realized that I focused on all the woes in my life in the past so much so that I forgot about a lot of the joys in life.

Just as quickly as I found my peace, it was taken away, not by the children, but when the show stopped.  The lights came on.  People scattered like roaches do when you flick the light on them, bumping and pushing their way through like the stores weren’t going to be there.  <SIGH>

Have you had a moment of clarity lately about your life or maybe life in general?

Good Times

I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving day yesterday.  I’m sorry to tell you that I have NO drama or anything remotely funny to share about yesterday.  It was an insanely calm and almost ordinary day for us.  It was fantastic!

We traveled to my mom’s house, about an hour and a half away.  Everyone who attended liked each other, so there was no bickering or sensing of any attitudes.  It was just a family day.  The turkey wasn’t my best, but it was edible.  :) The rest of the food was great.   Everyone was in great spirits.  The kids behaved great.  All around the day was great.  Even the weather was great.  Seeing the pattern?

While I would have enjoyed regaling you with amusing stories of utter disarray and a failing family infastructure, I simply can’t.  We weren’t that family this year and that was a wonderful feeling.

Happy Thanksgiving!
