Start of Something New

I watched the inauguration today.  I purposely didn’t watch a lot of news all week so that I wouldn’t be over saturated by the ceremony before it even happened.  I actually didn’t even make the decision until this morning that I was really going to watch it.  I thought I might, but I wasn’t sure.  I’m really glad I did.  For me, by watching, I feel like I cared about what was going on outside of the confines of my own home.

Whether I voted for Obama or not, history was made by the first African American being sworn in as president.  If Barack were a 30 year old living in the early 1950’s he would not have been able to use the same restroom as a white person.  Now he, as a black man, has the most important job on earth; leading the U.S.

I found myself suddenly feeling very emotional and couldn’t stop watching.  There were sooooo many people there all wanting to be a part of a historical moment.  You could just see the hope and joy on their faces.  They all really believe in this man, no matter what race.  They hope that he can bring change to our lives over the next few years.  I, for one, am eager to see what he does because if there’s one thing Republicans and Democrats both agree on is that change is needed.
