This image reminds me of just a couple months ago and how it felt to put gas in our truck. (We have a Ford Expedition) When gas prices were about $3.90ish..it cost me around $107 to fill up if I let it go to empty. Prices had been so high for so long that I got a HUGE reality check when I went to fill up today. It was $1.99 for Unleaded!!!! Big difference. Quite frankly I don’t even remember when it was below $2.60 last out here. When I filled up today, it cost me $52.00. That is a difference of $55.00!!!!! NO wonder why our monthly budget was so mangled. We fill up 1 time a week…so $55.00 times 4 is an extra $220.00 a month we were spending in gas alone. Considering we didn’t get a raise we had to take that money from elsewhere. That meant less road trips, less eating out or if we did it was fast food and less extra ativities that you have to pay for like bowling or theme parks. My husband and I are considering buying a bunch of gas cards with these prices and leaving them in a drawer somewhere so that when prices hike back up to $3.60-and you know they will!-we will have prepaid gas at a much easier price to swallow. Go buy some gas cards for yourself!!!!
What did you have to cut back on while prices were so high?

Hi Ze, Great post…wow $1.99 we’re not down that low yet but it has gone down a lot! Your idea about buying gas cards I didn’t even know that the price would be honored if you bought them at that particular price, as you said you know darn well the prices are going to go up again. So I like that idea about buying some ahead of time. I’ve cut back on cell phone, I’ve been using Tracfone which has saved me alot this way I pay as I go am loving no monthly bills. Great post with a great idea. Thanks
Ze…I don’t think gas cards work like that….I don’t think they are like the “forever Stamps” I think they are just like gift cards…you buy 20 bucks and you only get 20 bucks worth of gas whether that is 2.99/gallon or 5.00/gallon.
Jen ~ I thought the same thing, but Patrick was telling me that there are some gas stations that participate in letting you buy the gift cards at a certain price and then they honor them at that price later b/c they program the cards to be used as such however, you would HAVE to use it at that particular station. I’ll get the links with more info about this and post it on here.
JJ ~ I’ll get the link from my husband about this. This might be something you could blog about on your MCB.
I bought gas for $1.89 today! I honestly didn’t think we’d ever see gas under $2.00 again. It’s great!!!
