His blog is about the domain industry and blogging so you may want to check around for some useful info.

Our Trip To The ER

Tagged Under : , , ,

Sorry guys.  I know I was just back on my game, posting frequently.  Jordyn got really ill earlier in the week.  In fact, he was so ill I had to take him to the hospital ER because he had trouble breathing.  That was Tuesday - I’m starting to just now feel a little more calm.  When your 7 year old says, “Um, it’s hard for me to breathe.”  as he takes a breath between every other word, it kinda scares the hell out of you.  Here’s what happened.

Monday

When Jordyn woke up to go to school on Monday I could see on his face he wasn’t feeling well.  His eyes kinda turn colors and they sunk in a little.  I don’t know how to describe it other then to say that I just know when he’s coming down with something just by looking at him.  Momma’s intuition.  At any rate, his eyes were watering and he was sneezing and sniffling a lot.  At a certain point he just looked at me while eating his cereal and said, “I don’t want to go to school.  My head hurts.  I don’t feel well.”  So I let him stay home.  He was running a low fever 99.8.  Clearly he didn’t feel well.  I gave him a little medicine and by the end of the day he almost looked like normal again.  I thought he would go to school Tuesday because even he was saying how much better he felt.  We all went to bed happy.

Tuesday

When we woke up for school he had the same look as Monday morning.  I inquired as to how he was feeling.  He pretty much said how he didn’t feel well again and had a headache again.  So I let him stay home.  I noticed he started to have this dry nagging cough so when I brought Aryanna to school I picked up some medicine for him and gave him some when I got back.

My Big Fat Motivation

Tagged Under : , ,

We went to a pool party Saturday. I’ve put some weight on since I’ve been in a bathing suit last. After I put my suit on Aryanna comes in the bathroom and says, “Aren’t you going to say how this makes you look fat?”

Me: “I’m sorry, what was that?”

A: “I said, aren’t you planning on saying how this makes you look fat? You know….how women do.”

I paused for a few seconds and smirked.

Me: “I didn’t plan on it.”

A: “Well you should.”

Me: “Ummmm, why? Does this make me look fat.”

A: “Okay…” she pauses and puts her hands up, palms facing me as if she were motioning me to stop, and continues, “I’m not saying this to hurt your feelings. I just want you to know that. But your belly…right here (she rubs my belly like she’s rubbing a Buddha belly statue) makes a big bump in this bathing suit a little. So it makes you look a little fat. But I’m not trying to hurt your feelings. I’m just letting you know how it looks.”

Me: “Well thanks for not hurting my feelings and being so nice about it.”

A: “No problem. I’m really not trying to hurt you, I’m trying to help you. You just might want to change.”

Me: “Well, I’m sorry but I don’t have another bathing suit.”

A: “You might want to buy one then. Just something you should think about.”

Me: “How old are you again?”

A: “Moooom…” she giggled, “You know I’m 5.”

Me: “OK. I was just checking.”

Funny thing is she was really trying to be sincere and not hurt my feelings. I guess I know who to go to when I want to know if I really do look fat in something. :)

Wordless Wednesday ~ Sleeping Beauty

Well….sleeping boy actually. We found someone in our bed the other night. And no, I didn’t put the bear there. That’s “Teddy”. We made him for Jordyn right before he was born and he has slept with him every night since.

Easter Pics

I hope everyone had a good Easter. We did. It was laid back with just my husband, the kids, my Mom and my little brother. After we made the baskets we dyed some eggs. This year we took a drive to my Mom’s house. She made the best rib roast ever. I have got to get the recipe for that one! Here are some pics.  I know I’m a day late but I was exhausted yesterday and wasn’t even going to begin to try to put the album together.  Enjoy the pictures.

Paper Bag Easter Baskets

Tagged Under : , ,

One of the things we like to do during Easter time is making Easter baskets out of paper bags.  Then we fill them and give them as gifts.  Examine the benefits here - they are cheap, easy to make and the kids can be creative with whatever you have around the house.  I’m sharing these baskets with you because if you have children or work with younger ones, this is such a nifty (yes I said nifty) craft they usually have fun with.  When I ran a day care I had the kids make this.  They loved it.  It’s something I do with my own children now.

Also, the baskets can be made for other holidays and decorated appropriately to go with the theme.  I happen to scrapbook and make diaper cakes for showers so I have a lot of supplies to be used on such projects.  If you don’t have a lot of supplies, grab some crayons, markers, construction paper and glue and you’ll be set.  This also makes for a great last minute easy-to-make gift if you happen to forget to pick something up for someone.  Most people love gifts that were hand made.  They treasure them.

What you’ll need:

lunch size brown paper bags
decorating supplies ~ whatever you want to use
candy or previous craft small enough to fit in the basket

All you have to do is cut the bag open along the seams to where you see the fold toward the bottom.  Once you do that fold the large flaps inside over one another to create the illusion of a bucket.  Take the two remaining flaps, staple them together and voila you have a basket.  Hand it over to the kids and let them go wild with the decorating.

Here are the ones we made today for Easter at my Mom’s house Sunday.  The pictures will reflect the steps that I gave you.  Remember you can make them for any occasion!  Happy Easter!!

My Favorite Spring and Summer Drink

Tagged Under : , , , , ,

Easter is Sunday in case you forgot like my mom.  We tend to keep it simple.  A few of us gather together and we cook and drink and basically just hang out with each other for the day.  Don’t forget I’m Puerto Rican.  That means we eat and drink for everything.  The drinking part made me think of one of my favorite drinks to have right when it starts to get warm on through to summer time.  It’s similar to a “Lime Ricky” drink but a little more simplified which makes it a little cheaper to make and well, saving money makes me smile.  :)  <– See

Anyhoo.  This drink is really refreshing.  If you like lime flavored drinks you’ll love it.  I am NOT a lime flavor type of girl and even I love this drink. The flavor is subtle and the frozen juice I use has a perfectly balanced flavor to it - not too sour or sweet.  If you try it this weekend with your friends and family, let me know what you thought of it.

Ingredients:

1 Cup Gin ~ Use the brand of your choice. I use whatever I find on sale that day.
1 Liter of Club Soda
1 Whole Lime ~ If you want a garnish. They are usually very inexpensive.
1 Small Can of Frozen Minute Maid Limeade
1 Serving Pitcher

Directions:

Take the gin, all of the club soda, and the whole can of limeade and mix it in a serving pitcher.  I usually slice up the lime and put all the slices in the pitcher.  You can slice them up and just use them as a cute garnish on the glass if you don’t want the actual fruit in your drink.  Make this drink early in the day and set it in the fridge to get chilled.  If it’s still not cold enough by the time your guests arrive serve with some ice.  It taste best when it is served really cold.

This drink usually goes over well during spring and summer because it has such a refreshing taste to it.  It’s also easy on the waste because it’s very low in calories.  The dieters of the group can have a few of these if they wanted to.  It’s cheap to make and low in calories?  I’m sold!  I hope you will be too.  By the way feel free to add more or less gin.  One cup is VERY subtle.  Most people say they can barely taste it.  Sometimes I’ll put more if I want it a little stronger.

My favorite way to drink this is with one lime slice thrown into the glass half full of crushed ice.  I love chomping on ice so this has become my preferential way of drinking it.  You try it though and make it how you want it.  Let me know what you think.

Enjoy!!
