The Irony of Some Things

Tagged Under : , , ,

When I was catching up on the news online this morning I found this story.  Watch the video.  The clip is about an elderly woman who’s husband bought a lotto ticket early November 1st, then died later on in the day of a heart attack.  Since she was grieving the loss of her husband, she never bothered to check the ticket until now and it turned out that was the jackpot winning numbers for her state.  I want you to watch it so you can find out how much she won.  I didn’t want to spoil it for you.

Wasn’t that crazy?  Ironic is a better word.

After I watched that story I was immediately reminded of Alanis Morrisette’s song, Isn’t It Ironic.  What’s even more ironic is that ALL morning I have been trying to remember all the lyrics to the song because I knew there was a part in there about someone hitting the lotto.  For 3 hours I tried to figure it out instead of just looking it up on the internet.  (Hey I went to college in 1995…Alanis was all we listened to then so I knew some of the words.)

Anyhoo, I kept trying to remember but couldn’t so I gave up thinking if I don’t think about it, it will come to me.  I dropped Aryanna off at school.  On my way home as I pulled into my subdivision I put the easy listening station on. Guess what song came on????  The very song I was trying to remember the lyrics to.

I can’t help it but, isn’t it ironic?

Lights Out

Tonight the electricity went out for a few hours.  You would think something tragic really happened.

All I know is that the house went black.  The lights flickered about 4 or 5 times and there was an erie silence…until the lights stop flickering and everything was blacked out again.  Aryanna was in the shower.  I was in her bedroom right next to her bathroom.  Jordyn was in the living room by himself watching T.V. and Patrick was in the office working furiously on a project…so furiously that he hasn’t come out of the office since he woke up except to eat and pee.

Back to the lights going out.  It goes pitch black in the house.  All at once Aryanna squealed screeched screamed and Jordyn yelled, “MOOOOOOOOOOM!!” as if I’m the one that shut the lights out.  Patrick was quiet until 30 minutes passed and he still couldn’t work.  Then it was, “I can’t believe the lights are out.” or “I wonder what happened.” or “Why are the lights stillllll out?”.

I helped Aryanna out of the shower.  Everyone frantically looked for candles to light.  I think my husband wouldn’t have made it through the pioneer era unless he had a mobile battery and a laptop he could access.

It happened right at bedtime but the kids were too excited to go to sleep so we wound up playing cards and hanging out for a little bit until they were calm.  Then it was off to bed.

How eventful, huh?

What to read?

As you know, if you read my goals, one of them was to read more often.  I’m enlisting the help of my readers.

Leave me a comment with a book you either recommend or a book that you would like me to read and review on here. This can either turn into an open discussion amongst the ones who have read the book or it could just be a review to either entice or warn someone about the book.

I like autobiographies, romance or anything generally entertaining.   I’m actually open to anything except that I’m not a big sci-fi girl.

Give me some suggestions in the comments and let’s see if any good ones come up.

Poor Guy

I have ruined it for the man who winds up wanting to marry my daughter. By loving her and wanting to share his life with her, he will bind himself to a life of servitude. Wait a second. Isn’t that how it should be anyways? <--- I see some hate mail coming for that one. hehe

About three weeks ago she asked me to rub her feet while we were in bed at bed time. So it started out where I would rub or scratch them (she especially loves that) to relax her. Then, I'd sing a song and she'd nod off. At some point she figured out that if she lays belly down on the opposite end of the bed her feet fall into the perfect position which happens to be right next to my hand. Imagine her delight about this.

This is how our nights are now. Every night she lays next to me. We chit chat a minute. She does some super-flexy move that bends herself in half to where she winds up on the other end of the bed sticking her feet in my face, asking me in that sleepy sweet voice, "Scratch my feet please." How does a mother resist that? A mother can't. Not this mother. She now falls asleep in less than half the time, all for a foot rub or scratch. Again, I ask, how does a mother resist that? Oh, how this mother can’t.

It has now been like this for about 3 weeks. I was just thinking today, what will she make her poor husband do for her? If her personality is anything later on what it is like now, my guess is that he’ll be rubbing her feet every single night. My guess also is that if her personality is anything later on what it is like now, she’ll be the kind of woman that deserves a foot rub every night.

2009 Is Here!

Happy New Year everyone!!  2009 is here…hopefully it will be a more prospersous and healthy one for all.

We celebrated quietly at home last night.  The kids had fun staying up with us.  Aryanna almost didn’t make it, but once we changed the channel to show Time Square, she livened right up.  We counted down with everyone in the T.V.  Then we yelled Happy New Year!!!  The kids screamed.  Patrick and I yelled.  Everyone kissed and hugged.

What is it about that moment that makes you forget all the wrong in the world and all the wrong with each other?  It always seems like such an emotional and exciting moment.  Maybe because we have no clue what’s to come but we all want to see what is going to happen.  Maybe we all are just full of hopes for the future that we are ready to bring it on and conquer.

I personally love that moment and look foward to it every year because for a brief period in time nothing else matters in life but that moment of change.  Change of time.  Change of year.  Change of old ways to new and better ways.

I’m excited to see what 2009 brings.  Bad or good, I will learn a lesson either way.
